Title
Digital Divide and the Local Chain Approach to Digital Inclusion in The Netherlands
Summary
Digital Inclusion in Healthcare Using a Game: It has been in the Dutch public media and now it's on the Games for Health Europe conference: the game about digital inclusion in healthcare. Despite the digital transformation in healthcare, many patients miss out on digital skills. A part of the population that gets overlooked too easily. Now Pharos, a Dutch expertise center in reducing healthcare inequality, designed a game to create awareness amongst healthcare providers, policy makers and app developers about the difficulties in digital healthcare for many people. It all comes in one suitcase. This suitcase contains information with tasks to make an appointment with a hospital and to be well prepared for that appointment. Players have to overcome the digital hurdles in that process. In this way they learn about these hurdles, which are relevant lessons for future or even existing digital applications. All with the objective to reduce digital inequality, since not every person has the capacity to become familiar with digital healthcare. Come and play the game on April 1st at the Games for Health Europe conference in Eindhoven! The same topic will be addressed during the session about Patient Engagement. ----- Digital Divide and the Local Chain Approach to Digital Inclusion in The Netherlands: The digital divide remains a significant challenge in the Netherlands, with 4 million citizens lacking sufficient digital skills and 1.2 million never having used the internet. Many struggle with online banking, government services, and basic digital interactions. The Local Chain Approach to Digital Inclusion focuses on empowering individuals and fostering public-private collaboration to create sustainable solutions. This strategy builds upon existing initiatives and research-backed methods to ensure broad accessibility. Key benefits of this approach include better alignment of services, stronger partnerships, and enhanced participation of vulnerable groups. The ultimate goal is to ensure that everyone can continue to participate in the digital society, regardless of age, literacy level, or socioeconomic status. Through collaborative efforts, we can bridge the digital divide in the Netherlands and across Europe.
