Drs. Brigit Heemskerk is a former manager and director in healthcare and graduated at the University of Utrecht as a biologist and at the university of Maastricht as a health scientist. She gained her experiences in hospitals and nursing homes as a strategic advisor or as a manager and director.
In 2016 she started her company Healthy Society that focusses on self-management for people with a chronic illness in public health and sustainable employability for employees in companies. She is motivated to create a movement that supports experience experts to provide people with a chronic illness with evidence based self-management programs. And she believes that the development of health skills will be essential for people to embrace self-management in their work and lives.

Brigit will be presenting a Stanford-based approach for citizens who have a long-term illness or have long-term health problems. The approach is focusing on knowledge promotion, practice health skills and social support of a group.
The power of the approach is that it supports self-management and it offers the possibility for a community to set up their own support structure through a train the trainers spread model. During the workshop you will acquaint what the approach is, and you will be challenged to think about sustainable public health from a co-creating point of view.
