Richelle Kosse

Dr. Richelle Kosse conducted her PhD research at the Utrecht University, at the division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Clinical Pharmacology. During her PhD, Richelle focused on adolescents using chronic medication and the opportunities for mobile health (mHealth).  She developed and evaluated an interactive mHealth intervention for adolescents with asthma to improve their medication adherence.

Richelle received a fellowship of the Lung Foundation Netherlands (Longfonds) to conduct part of her research at the eHealth unit of the University College London. The results of her PhD studies are presented at this conference. Last February, Richelle obtained her PhD and thereafter she decided to move outside academia.

Currently, Richelle is working at Almirall, as a Medical Science Liaison in the field of dermatology. She is still working with eHealth, because she is involved in the development of a patient support program for psoriasis patients.

App verbetert medicatiegebruik van jonge astma patiënten

De therapietrouw van adolescenten met astma is laag, en hierdoor is de astma vaak niet volledig onder controle. Daarom hebben wij de ADolescent Adherence Patient Tool (ADAPT) ontwikkeld. Deze interventie bestond uit een smartphone applicatie (app) voor patiënten, die gekoppeld was aan een computerprogramma in de apotheek.

De ADAPT interventie bevatte verschillende functies: een vragenlijst om klachten en therapietrouw te monitoren, een medicatie alarm om geneesmiddelen niet te vergeten, korte informatiefilmpjes, chat met andere deelnemers en een chat met de apotheker. De ADAPT interventie is geëvalueerd in een geclusterd gerandomiseerd onderzoek met 66 openbare apotheken. Het doel van de ADAPT studie was om de therapietrouw van adolescenten met astma (leeftijd 12-18 jaar) te verbeteren.
