I’m a 29 year old Ph.D candidate of medical technology from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. My research interests are human movement in general, and specifically physical rehabilitation after stroke. I am exited about the possibilities that lie in exergaming, and I’m working on using machine learning to understand movements performed while playing exergames. Technology optimist.

User Perspectives on Safety, Acceptability and Feasibility of VR Treadmill Training for Stroke Patients

In this study we investigate stroke patients’ perspectives on the safety and acceptability of using a VR treadmill system, and clinicians perspectives on using such a system in a clinical setting. Five patients and five clinicians were recruited, and they played a custom VR treadmill game using a HTC Vive system and a treadmill. All participants enjoyed the game and felt safe because of the harness and handrails. Patients were positive about using VR treadmill training in their rehabilitation.

Clinicians saw potential for their patients using such a system, barring physical or cognitive loss of function indicating low usefulness or risk for adverse events. All patient- and age groups were seen as potential users. Acceptance of the system was high among both clinicians and patients, and clinicians deemed it feasible to use in the clinic.
