PRESENTATION 2019

Escape rooms are physical adventure activities that allow participants to solve hidden puzzles in collaboration with a group while “locked” in the same room. Developed since 2006, they have gained popularity across the world. The model uses players in a locked room that use elements of the room to solve a series of puzzles to escape the room. Escape rooms have themes that vary from history mysteries to outer space odyssey, and start to be used also for educational purposes in Health Care and Prevention. Learning goals in applying escape rooms for health professional and students involve knowledge transfer, inter-professional teamwork and communication.

The European Public Health Association (EUPHA) aspires to design a public health escape room. This escape room should encourage collaboration amongst public health professionals, including with those outside the traditional field of public health (e.g. urban planners, occupational therapists). The added value of an umbrella organisation such as EUPHA developing an escape room is that it can easily be adopted by EUPHA members, i.e. national public health associations in the European region, and save double work with regards to development and start-up expenses.

During this session at the 8th Games for Health Europe Congress the options for a public health escape room are discussed. Through a round table discussion input will be gathered.
